Our Safety Program is called the Green Shield, and we have spent our careers developing the polices, procedures and best practices that make up our Safety Manual. Each employee receives a copy of our Safety Manual on their first day and the manual is accessible on our field tablets or phones at all times.
Safety starts with training. As we bring on new employees, they spend their first day in Safety training and do not make it to the second day until they have passed all tests and been approved by the field management team. All training required or requested by our employees is completely paid for by the company.
We believe in "out of sight" - "out of mind". That's why we have banners, posters, and decals at all touch points with our employees in the office, yard and on our trucks and equipment. We want to make sure our safety messages and policies stay front and center with each employee at all times.
Our owners and field management team perform regular inspections of our job-sites to identify any non-compliance, safety violations or potential hazards. Goal #1 is to prevent incidents before they happen by identifying unsafe actions and then sharing those with our employees.
In the event we witness or are aware of unsafe practices, we will quickly implement disciplinary action for those responsible up to and including termination of employment. Every employee of the company has the authority to "stand down" if they feel unsafe.
It is important to recognize and reward good safety records and sound safety practices. We track all incidents and behaviors and reward our employees. This includes our decal program for hard hats and trucks, and branded apparel and gifts highlighting they are leaders in safety.
When Garret Shields was founded, we made the decision that the company would be focused on our field operations first. We call it Frontline Focused - Field First.
We invest our resources, time, and money into our field first. Our superintendents, foreman, and crews always have what they need to be safe and perform high quality services for our clients. This committment keeps our team fully engaged in their work and our projects stay on-schedule and on-budget.
